Julie The Dog Walker

Clip Art Doggie

Update July 2020

With a very heavy heart I have sadly decided to hang up my dog leads for the time being, so I'm not walking any dogs at present. But I know plenty of lovely dog walkers and I'm on two Facebook pages of dog walkers too. So do still drop me an email if you are looking for a dog walker for your doggie and I'd be very happy to try and find someone trustworthy and experienced to help you out!

About me

Me and Danny on Blackford Hill

My name is Julie Odell and I have been living in Edinburgh since 2003. After years of working as a nurse I decided to have a total career change and to follow my heart. So in 2007 "Julie The Dog Walker" was born! It started small with just one dog - Skye, an adorable Cocker Spaniel - and has since grown into a thriving small business which I am thoroughly enjoying.

Since I can remember I have always loved dogs. I am a keen walker too, so having the opportunity to put my two greatest passions into my work is wonderful and I am getting so much pleasure out of walking dogs everyday in Edinburgh's beautiful green spaces.

I am a totally trustworthy, friendly, reliable, extremely professional and very caring person. You can be completely assured that your dog will be safe and very well cared for with me and I will give them lots of love and attention as if your dog was my own.

Areas covered

I'll collect dogs in South Edinburgh, concentrating on the areas of Marchmont, Sciennes, The Grange, and Blackford.

Dog walking service

Your dog will have a lovely time, walking in and around Edinburgh. Safety is my top priority. I never walk in areas close to any traffic but take full advantage of the stunning green spaces that South Edinburgh has to offer. Favourite places I most frequently walk dogs are Blackford Hill, The Hermitage in Blackford Glen, Colinton Dell, Craiglockhart Hill and Woods, the Braid Hills, Torphin Hill, Portobello Beach and Harlaw Reservoir on the edge of the Pentlands, with occasional trips to Gullane and Yellowcraigs beaches.

I collect by car, which has been fitted with dog guards, so you can be certain that your dog will be transported in safety. Dog walks last a full hour. That's actual walking time, not time spent picking up, transporting or dropping dogs home. Your dog will have opportunities for lots of fun on the walk, socialising, running and enjoying themselves with other dogs in the group. After the walk your dog will be delivered back home, happy, refreshed and exercised. I always towel down your dog and wipe their paws if they have got muddy or wet and I would check your dog's water bowl before I leave in case it needs to be topped up. I can give them any food or medication if required too. I also leave a little note saying where we've gone for a walk and how your dog was on the walk too. And of course I'll leave your home securely locked.

I only walk small groups of dogs (my insurance covers me to walk a maximum 6 dogs, but I rarely walk that many at once) and I use biodegradable dog poo bags.

Please note that all adult dogs must be spayed or neutered.

I'm fully insured with a specialist pet care insurance agency, have been police checked and have excellent references. In June 2013 I attended a canine first aid course.

I am a registered dog walker with the City of Edinburgh Council, follow their code of conduct and have permission to walk dogs in any of the Council's green spaces.

Sorry, I cannot offer dog boarding or daycare.

If I sound like what you may be looking for then please do email or phone me so we can discuss arrangements and organise for me to come and visit you and your dog.

Testimonials

"Working caused me a lot of anxiety as I hated leaving my cocker spaniel, Skye. She was terribly devoted to me and I felt very guilty as she always tried to come out the door with me. Then I found Julie who was wonderful. Julie loved long river walks and also seemed to love Skye as much as I did. When Skye was ill and needed attention she was meticulous and devoted to her. Skye spent weekdays with Julie, and sometimes stayed nights if I went away. I always knew I would come home to a well cared for, well walked and contented dog. I also appreciated Julie's professionalism." - Chris, Skye's owner.

"Although Julie has only been walking Ginty a few weeks she looks forward to her weekly walk! Ginty comes back from her walks suitably exercised and content. Julie leaves a lovely little note sharing where they have gone for their walks and has also sent photographs of their excursions. I think Ginty's beaming toothy smile says all." - Wendy, Ginty's owner.

"Julie is great. We are so sad that we have moved and that she can't now walk our dog, Daphne, who adored her. Daphne used to sit on the back of the sofa looking out of the window, waiting for her to arrive and would then jump crazily with excitement when she saw her. Julie is very responsible, trustworthy, reliable and caring, leaving us a daily note to let us know how Daphne had got on and what she had been up to, which we used to love reading. Julie's flexibility was a great help to us and when we moved further afield she helped us find our new dog walker. Julie is really friendly, great with the dogs and we would recommend her highly to anyone." - Louise and Stuart, Daphne's owners.

"Tashi is my first dog and I could definitely be accused of being an over anxious owner. However, I also knew that as I worked I needed to find someone to walk her. My neighbour recommended Julie and I am so glad she did. Tashi is devoted to her - she makes her very special Tibetan Terrier howl every time she sees her! Most importantly Tashi comes back happy and tired and is taken to all sorts of exciting and fun places. Julie is a dog lover and dogs love her - what more could you ask for?" - Anne, Tashi's owner.

"My name is Lily I live with my lovely owner who is quite elderly. Her daughter Claire is my second best friend and she walks me a lot well walking is not quite the truth she likes marathon running so we run over the hills and through the fields but never on the roads. Anyway Claire decided we needed some backup and two years ago we met Julie on Blackford Hill and we asked if I could join the pack. Julie said she would take me on a trial walk to see how I got on. I can be a bit nervous so the first day I was horrible to her and growled at her and would not come out my cage however Julie persevered, she came back the next day and the three of us went for a walk. I saw that Julie was really kind and she carried a tin of biscuits for treats so she became my best friend. I love Julie as much as my owners. Every week without fail she comes and collects me and takes me for a walk to loads of different places like Portobello Beach, The Braids and Torphin Hill, she always has other dogs with her, being an only dog I miss not having siblings to play with so when I go out with Julie it is always great fun. Sometimes I go to doggy day care with her and that is fun I get two walks and a sleep in her lovely kitchen. If Julie is going on holiday she always gives my owners plenty of notice so they can make other arrangements and if they need extra days cover for me again she is always there. I look forward to seeing you in the pack, you will never look back. Lots of woofs Lily xxx"

"Our dogs just love Julie. They give her such a welcome when she comes to pick them up as they know they're going to have fun with the other dogs on the walk. Julie deals with the dogs in a professional manner and is very reliable. I trust her completely to look after Talisker and Skye. She is very accommodating of the changing needs of both the dogs and our family life. We enjoy reading her notes when we come home." - Jill, Talisker and Skye's owner.

"It is so great to be able to go to work 'guilt free', knowing my dog is having a day filled with exercise, great fun, and lots of interaction with other doggies. Munro loves Julie and it gives me real peace of mind knowing that he is in a safe, dog loving, pair of hands. I completely trust Julie. Munro is delivered home, happy, sleepy and sometimes a little mucky!" - Claire and John-Paul, Munro's owners.

"Julie is a reliable, enthusiastic dog walker who we entrust our dog to three days a week. We were initially worried about giving a set of keys to our flat and leaving our dog in a stranger's care. But when we met Julie she put our mind at ease with her friendly, enthusiastic and professional approach and happily provided insurance documents. With the gang of dogs she walks, we know our dog is socialising and enjoying a walk while we are at work, and we particularly like the note she leaves every day saying where she walked and how our dog got on." - Laura and Daragh, Otis' owners.

"Our dogs love their walks with Julie - she manages to accommodate both our rather sedentary 12yr old and our hyperactive fun loving 2 year old! The service we have received has been excellent - reliable and very accommodating of our needs." - Jenny and Fraser, Max and Murphy's owners.

"Julie was recommended to me by a friend who was already using her dog walking services and I am so glad I made the call to set up a weekly walk for my dog, Teabag. I have complete trust in Julie to look after my dog and he always has an absolute ball when he is out and about with all his dog pals. Julie is friendly and caring and has been extremely accommodating to any changes in our dog walking needs. Having Teabag walked by Julie has been such a brilliant weekly treat, for me and Teabag!" - Susan, Teabag's owner

"Julie is an absolute joy to have looking after our precious Peggy. She has been so helpful and reliable, and always cheerful; and I've had no hesitation in offering her access to our home." - Sarah, Peggy's owner

"Julie is responsive to our individual training needs. Babs has never picked up any "bad" habits since Julie has been walking her. Babs is contended and obviously well walked. Julie is thoughtful and the personal touches like texts, photos and the note she leaves after each walk are good." - Mandy, Babs' owner

"Once or twice a week, come rain or come shine, Julie takes me on one of my favourite walks, with a pack of pals. I am always so excited to see her. Before Julie started coming I was getting a bit sluggish and chubby, but now I'm back in shape and running again like an arrow. I feel totally safe with Julie; she is always in a good mood and I'm sure she loves me as much as I love her. I am Julie's biggest fan - woof!" - Tess, Tibetan Terrier

"Five months ago we decided to give Julie's dog-walking service a try, because despite our best intentions we weren't always able to walk our dog Tess as much as we wanted to. We haven't looked back. It's great to know that Tess gets enough exercise - no more guilt! Julie is enthusiastic, reliable and flexible, and she approaches her job (which is clearly also her passion) with a wonderful combination of commitment and enthusiasm. The arrangement is simple and hassle free, and it works extremely well for Tess (who adores Julie) and for us. We appreciate the little notes Julie leaves after each walk - and the fact that she wipes Tess' paws on a muddy day! We recommend her highly." - Mimo & Ewan, Tess' owners

"Julie is a reliable and trustworthy dogwalker, who won't let you down. She is very accommodating to our needs and busy schedules and our dog loves walks with her!" - Sabina, Zosia's owner

"Julie offers a very professional and reliable dog walking service. You can see by my dog's reactions how much he trusts her and how much he enjoys their walks. The walks are excellent value as Murphy comes back completely exhausted. I have also found that it has helped to socialise him with other breeds. Julie clearly loves what she does and I would strongly recommend her service to anyone." - Dan, Murphy's owner

"We encountered Julie by complete chance and now consider ourselves very lucky - Julie is very reliable and will go out of her way to take the best care of the dogs she looks after. She is very thoughtful and we love reading her messages describing what the dogs got up to during the walk. THANKS JULIE!" - Andrea and Stuart, Ringo's owners

"We couldn't recommend Julie enough. She is friendly, helpful and accommodating. We feel she has grown to understand the needs of our dog and have complete confidence that he is well looked after. Julie has been very flexible eg helping out on extra days if need be. We particularly appreciate the daily report she leaves for us." - Jenny and David, Fergus's owners

"Julie has made such a difference to Max. He loves his time with her and all of his pals and is very contented and tired in the evening. He has also learned to be part of a pack and has become very comfortable around other dogs. Julie clearly loves all the dogs and it's amazing how calm they are around her. We thoroughly recommend her to anyone wanting to give their dog a wonderful experience." - Grant and Elinor, Max the cocker spaniel's owners

"Julie has been perfect for our busy family. She is friendly, reliable and very flexible. Getting notes about Max's walks is very reassuring. I feel he is well looked after and he loves her!" - Annie and Craig, Max the lurcher's owners

"Julie has been walking my dog Jack for over a year now and he always enjoys his outings with her. She really knows and loves the dogs she takes out and I very much appreciate the little notes she leaves at the end of each walk saying where they have been and how Jack has got on with the other dogs and whether his arthritis has been bothering him. She is also very flexible about arrangements and very helpful in taking Jack out more often if that is needed. All in all, a great service - thank you Julie!" - Helen, Jack's owner

"We are very happy to recommend Julie's great service to other dog owners who like us need an active dog walker from time to time. It is a real bonus for us to know that when we can't have Ben with us for whatever reason, he is enjoying a really good romp with other dogs and is in safe, experienced hands. The tired smile on his face when we return home says it all!" - Fay and Ronnie, Ben's owners

"From the moment we met Julie we were completely comfortable with leaving our six month old pup Bailey with her. Julie is trustworthy, enthusiastic and reliable and Bailey absolutely loves her walks with her. It is so lovely to read Julie's notes telling us where Bailey has been gallivanting that day and how happy she is zooming about! We aren't sure who Bailey's favourite is now, us or Julie!" - Nic and Thomas, Bailey's owners
